La Salle hosts youth basketball nights in January

Update (January 15, 2010): Due to the success of the first Youth Basketball Nights, La Salle has added another for January 22, 2010 when the boys' basketball program hosts Stayton. Christ the King's 8th grade CYO teams will face-off in an exhibition game during halftime of the varsity game between La Salle and Stayton. Click here for more information on our second boys' CYO night, or contact Coach Kevin Berry '01 at berry.kevin@gmail.com.

– La Salle Prep’s home openers for both the boys’ and girls’ varsity basketball teams will celebrate local youth basketball players. Youth basketball players ages 10-14 are welcome to attend either the Girls’ Youth Basketball Night on Friday, January 8, 2010 or the Boys’ Youth Basketball Night on Tuesday, January 12, 2010.

Girls’ basketball players who wear their jerseys to the January 8th game versus Cascade will receive free admission. Local youth girls’ basketball players can also attend the pre-game Chalk Talk with Head Coach Julia Barker, sit behind the La Salle bench during the varsity game and participate in a halftime 3-point shot contest. All youth players are also invited to a pizza social in the La Salle Center at 6:00 p.m. Those interested should contact Coach Barker at jbarker@lshigh.org.

La Salle’s Boys’ Basketball team will host a Youth Basketball Night during their home opener on January 12th versus Molalla. Youth basketball players who attend will receive free admission just by wearing their team’s jersey. Attendees will receive free popcorn, VIP seating behind the La Salle bench, a chance to attend the pre-game Chalk Talk with Head Coach Kevin Berry, and a chance to participate in the halftime 3-point shot contest. The first 100 students who attend the boys’ home opener will receive a free La Salle Basketball “Courtside Chaos” t-shirt with their donation of two cans of food for the Oregon Food Bank. The team will also be selling historic La Salle basketball apparel, including uniforms, shorts, bags, pants, and jackets for $5 or less per item.

The boys’ and girls’ basketball teams are off to hot starts for the 2009-2010 seasons. The girls’ are currently 8-4 and ranked 15th in latest 4A Coaches Poll. The Falcons enter their home and league opener with consecutive wins over North Marion 51-40 and Country Christian 47-34.

La Salle’s Boys’ Basketball team turns the calendar to 2010 with a 7-5 record and ranked 16th in the 4A Coaches Poll. The Falcons downed #7 Hidden Valley (at the time ranked 2nd) 59-47.
