Victoria McDonald named 2010 Secondary School Librarian of the Year

Milwaukie, Ore. – Victoria C. McDonald, librarian for La Salle Catholic College Preparatory in Milwaukie, has been selected Oregon 2010 Secondary School Librarian of the Year by the Oregon Association of School Libraries (OASL), the professional group for school librarians and media specialists throughout the state.

McDonald (pictured right) was selected from numerous highly qualified candidates who were nominated by their school principals or other school personnel. This is the highest award given by the OASL, which each year honors one exemplary elementary school librarian, one secondary school librarian, one district librarian, one school library paraprofessional, and one school or district administrator. She stood out above the other highly qualified candidates with the depth and breadth of her experience and district programs. She incorporates reading promotion, information skills instruction, and collaboration with classroom teachers while running an exemplary school library. She works tirelessly to help answer any question her patrons have. She constantly strives to instill a culture of investigation and love of literature in her school.

“Victoria is a truly exceptional educator. Her vision, knowledge and commitment are a driving force behind our school's efforts to increase the literacy skills of all our students. Victoria has instilled in our school a culture of investigation and love for literature. She goes out of her way to reach students in a way that is inviting and encouraging. In the Lasallian spirit, Victoria is a big sister to students and colleagues alike,” said Tom Dudley, Principal for La Salle Catholic College Preparatory.

McDonald will be honored during the awards banquet October 10, 2010 at the OASL Fall Conference in Salem, Ore.

Founded in 1966 and sponsored by the Brothers of the Christian Schools, La Salle is a co-educational Catholic high school community, emphasizing rigorous college-preparatory curriculum and dedicated to a safe and loving environment.
