Service Learning

The mission and culture of the Lasallian school community strives to promote the gospel values that Jesus demonstrated through his ministry.  Jesus' life calls and challenges every member of the Lasallian community to respond to the needs of others, especially the poor and marginalized, through works of service.

La Salle's Service Learning Program strives to awaken a sense of social responsibility in all students, especially the most privileged, and to assist them in responding to the Gospel call of Christian service.  The service learning program encourages students, whenever possible, to deepen their personal sense of responsibility for the needs of those outside of their immediate community, the poor and marginalized, and helps them recognize service to those less fortunate than themselves as an opportunity to serve God.

The Service Learning program includes two components: students working together with their classmates during class time on various service projects related to the curriculum and students performing individual service related to the Service Learning project set for their grade level.

GRADE LEVEL CLASS THEME

The specific goals for the Service Learning Program are:

  • To make a visible efforts to act justly in regards to poverty, oppression, and marginalization in the surrounding and international community.
  • Instill in our students a worldwide concern for justice and social action in response to the Gospel call.
  • To guide students in the spiritual experience of service through prayerful reflection.
  • To challenge students to use the knowledge they are gaining in the classroom to benefit the community and those in need.
  • To enhance the curriculum of the school by providing quality and meaningful opportunities of service.
  • To assist the faculty and staff in expanding the curriculum to include service to those most in need in our community and the environment.
  • Coordinate international and local service immersion experiences for students.
